Hello and Welcome to  my first blog!

As a career and life coach, I want to begin by sharing some of the wisdom that helps me navigate life’s transitions and difficult moments.

Don Miguel Ruiz has written a small but precious piece of work called The Four Agreements, A Toltec Wisdom Book, A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom. The Toltecs were a community of artists and scientists in southern Mexico who explored and kept the spiritual practices and knowledge of the ancient ones. Don Miguel was born a Toltec descendant. His mother was a healer and his grandfather was a shaman, but Don Miguel decided to become a surgeon. A nearly fatal car crash caused him to rethink his life, and then he began the journey of studying Toltec wisdom with his mother and a shaman in the Mexican desert. His grandfather had already died but continued to teach him through his dreams.

Instead of all the culturally and family derived agreements we have made with ourselves about how to be in the world, Don Miguel suggests freeing ourselves from those entrapments of what we were told made us acceptable as people or not, and adopting the four agreements.

The Four Agreements

First:   Be Impeccable with Your Word

Second:   Don’t Take Anything Personally

Third:   Don’t Make Assumptions

Fourth:   Always Do Your Best

In my next blog, I will explore the First Agreement and how it relates to career work.
